You’re probably curious about Harry Potter’s kids while exploring the overall fictional universe of the story’s wizarding world.
It’s an interesting question because most people are only familiar with the main story, where everyone’s favorite wizard is only a child.
While a view of his life as an adult is shown at the very end, not much more than that is available.
However, much more is explained about this area as this world is revealed.
Keep in mind that there are some major spoilers in this article, including the deaths of important characters and the development of important relationships.
What are Harry Potter kids names? Harry Potter has three kids. Their names are:
- James Sirius Potter
- Albus Severus Potter
- Lily Luna Potter
The Family of Harry Potter
You probably already know that Harry’s parents are James and Lily just from reading or watching the main story.
Even so, you probably don’t know about his children or even much of the rest of his family.
He actually has three children with Ginny, one of Ron Weasley’s siblings.

Their names are James Sirius Potter, Albus Severus Potter, and Lily Luna Potter.
Some of these names are already familiar and have some history.
History of the Surname
Throughout the history of the wizarding world, and especially before the return of Voldemort, this family name wasn’t a special or noble one.
It’s a fairly old name and quite common among non-magic users, which is one of the main reasons why it didn’t stand out to magical users.
That eventually changed, obviously.
Since it isn’t a surname that only represents pure-blooded wizards and witches, it wasn’t included in the list that contained them.
Originally, this surname comes from Linfred of Stinchcombe, who is a 12th-century wizard.
His eccentricity and well-beloved nature eventually gave way to the nickname “the Potterer,” which eventually shortened to Potter.
The family’s good relationship with non-magic users perhaps led to integrating some of them into their family, such as the case with Harry’s parents.
Various members of this group were outspoken in their actions and words to help non-wizards.
The Kids of Harry Potter
Now that you have a basic overview of this family history, it’s time to go into the future about Harry and Ginny’s children.
To refresh your memory, all three of them appeared at the very end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
In the case of the movie, it was the second part.
This was during the train station scene as James Sirius and Albus Severus prepares to go to Hogwarts.
This is nineteen years after the main story.
James Sirius Potter
This is the eldest of the three children and was born around September 2003 to August 2004.
His godparents are Ron Weasley and Hermoine Granger, who are his uncle and aunt.
His name comes from his grandfather and his middle name comes from Sirius Black, who both died trying to stop Voldemort and his death eaters.
Starting his years at the Hogwarts school in 2015, he was sorted into the Gryffindor House and is the same one his father was sorted into.
He has a strong relationship with his family, keeping in close contact with them through the mail during his time at school.
However, it’s seen that he doesn’t always like to show it in public in the scene where he’s about to get on the train with his brother.
On one occasion, he teases his brother Albus that he’ll be sorted into Slytherin on his first day of school.
This turns out to be a foreshadow.
This friendly teasing nature is common in his personality.
Right before his second year attending Hogwarts, he actually managed to take the Marauder’s Map without anyone knowing.
This allowed him to cause quite a bit of lighthearted mischief in the school, eventually joining a group called “the M Squad”
This is not too far from his father and is especially similar to his grandfather.
Being the firstborn, he also inherited the Cloak of Invisibility, though it was stolen by his younger brother later on.
Albus Severus Potter
This is the middle child of the three kids and was born around September 2005 to August 2006.
This makes him two years younger than his older brother.
His first name comes from Albus Dumbledore, the longtime headmaster at Hogwarts during his father and grandfather’s years at the school.
His middle name is Severus Snape, a former professor at Hogwarts and headmaster for a short time when Voldemort took over during the second war.
Ironically, the person who he was named after had been killed by the person who he got his middle name from during the second wizarding war with Voldemort.
However, this was planned by both of them so there’s no confusion as to why these are the younger brother’s names.
He started his years at Hogwarts in 2017 as his older brother was going into a second year at the school.
Personality-wise, he takes more from his father than his grandfather.
Strangely enough, this child actually gets sorted into the Slytherin house at the school, along with Scorpius Malfoy who becomes his best friend.
Much of their story plays out in the eighth entry of the story that was made into a play.
It turns out that he doesn’t have as much natural magic ability as his older brother, but he plays an important role in pushing the story further.
At one point, he even risks his life to save his father from Voldemort’s only child.
Lily Luna Potter
Finally, this is the only girl of the three kids and is the youngest of them.
She was born around September 2007 to August 2008.
Going by the estimated dates, all three kids have very close birthdays together.
Similar to the eldest of the kids, her first name comes from her grandmother on her father’s side.
Her middle name comes from Luna Lovegood, one of her parents’ classmates at Hogwarts, and a good friend of theirs.
She started her schooling at Hogwarts in 2019 with Hugo Granger-Weasley, one of her cousins.
She was sorted into the Gryffindor house during her first year like her eldest sibling did.
Much of her physical characteristics come from her mother on the Weasley side, though she does have a characteristic smile that’s similar to her namesake.
She also seems to be close to her cousin, suggesting that she’s close with the overall family.
Like James Sirius, fans don’t get to see much of the sister except in what’s been written and mentioned.
Neither of them has a fully developed plot like Albus Severus does in the eighth book.
However, there are still possible future developments, which can come from the original author or even someone with an official position to continue the story.
Only time will tell.
Conclusion
That’s just about everything when it comes to Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley’s kids.
People have only begun to really discuss these characters recently, especially since the newest addition to the story.
While there’s more to this wizarding world than this family, it’s one of the main parts of the story that people are really drawn towards.
With that said, much more than this article is mostly speculation.
